Rainbow Eucalyptus Tree

The Rainbow Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus deglupta), also known as Mindanao gum, or rainbow gum, is a tall tree species native to the Philippines, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea. It is unique among Eucalyptus species as it thrives in rainforests, with a natural range that extends into the Northern Hemisphere. One of its distinctive features is its multi-colored bark.

The species was first formally described in 1850 by Carl Ludwig Blume in his book “Museum Botanicum Lugduno-Batavum sive stirpium Exoticarum, Novarum vel Minus Cognitarum ex Vivis aut Siccis Brevis Expositio et Descriptio,” based on material collected in mountain forests in Celebes. The term “deglupta” is Latin meaning “peeled off, husked, or shelled.”
