Nicholas sugar windmill, in the vicinity of Mount Victory and Spring Garden, has an interesting feature. It appears that the mill was vertically extended (although I have no actual records yet to substantiate this). If this is correct, it would have been done to catch more wind in the sails, but at an elevation of over 690 ft, with nothing to the immediate east, this seems unlikely. However, the ridgeline to the ENE, above scenic road west, less than a mile away is close to 900 ft and an intermediate ridgeline just over a half mile away to the ENE rises to almost 750 feet; so there is a possibility. ENE is the direction for the prevailing tradewinds.
